Lo-Fi Mojo: The Readymen, “Shortnin’ Bread”

The politics of “Shortnin’ Bread” (download) confuse me; I choose to see it as a bunch of whacked-out Left Coast surfer dudes having a ball making fun of the crackers. That’s the best I can do.

Feel free to enter your own interpretation of this vintage genre mashup from Pebbles, Vol. 4: Surf N Tunes.

Fricking great groove, however. Speaking of this cut, I need to put on some coffee, too.

Like The Dictators' “California Sun”, where Right Coast punks have a ball making fun of the Left Coast surfer dudes?

It's like some kind of Sesame Street skit that never made it on the air. Truly strange, but very entertaining.

To hell with the politics, it's simply one of the best surf-garage numbers ever recorded.

The Ready Men were from Minneapolis.
