Lo-Fi Mojo: The Creation, “How Does it Feel to Feel”

Mojo Flucke October 16, 2008 5

The Creation nailed a top 40 hit in the UK in 1966 in “Painter Man,” which featured the crazy guitar playing of Eddie Phillips, who used a violin bow on the strings—a trick so cool Jimmy Page co-opted and rode until be became a trillionaire legend with his garage-blues band Led Zeppelin.

(OK, I might be exaggerating a little. About the legend part.)

Over here at lo-fi central, we’re not particularly interested in one-hit wonders’ one hits, but rather even more obscure tracks. Hence we give you the Creation’s “How Does it Feel to Feel,” which Godfathers fans will recognize instantly, scratching their heads and saying  “that was a cover?” In a word, yup.

Nice, Mojo…and I didn't realize the Godfathers covered it, too (the “shoegazer” band Ride covered it in '94 (promo video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElMjB1RrjhQ) on their 'Carnival of LIght' album, but the Godfathers were first in '91 on their 'Unreal World' LP.

It's a great song, regardless. Hell, all three versions of it rock hard…

Funny, I was going to say the same thing: I knew it from Ride's version before I knew of either the Godfathers' cover or the Creation's original.
