This in my opinion is one of the best songs of the 80's and agree it should have been a smash! This was a minor Top 40 hit in Australia in 1985 but quickly fell off the charts. However it represents all that was great about the 80's - a bit of soul, a (sometimes) great pop star, and killer verse/chorus hooks. Here's to Despite Straight Lines being available on iTunes.
