They definitely had their musical badges on their sleeves - Blur, Bowie, Roxy Music, Duran Duran and Depeche Mode. However I think the reason why they were not a major success is that they were perhaps a bit TOO contrived for their own good. The major Britpop bands had their own element to them which was very much rooted in the 90's, but these guys were looking to the past too much to really be taken seriously. A shame as their music was very catchy and radio friendly.<br>A few other bands of their ilk are even more forgotten but still made good scintillating pop all the same: anyone remember Plastic Fantastic?? Denim??! Kenickie?! Thought not.

I remember these guys when I was a Britpop fan in Brisbane back in the mid 90's, and I thought the clip for “Johnny Chrome & Silver” was hilarious as it parodied the likes of Top Of The Pops in the early 80's with the slightly daggy presenter surrounded by gorgeous pouting girls as he introduced the band. They were a very tight band, with a live presence & musicianship so much better than many of the sloppy grunge inspired bands of the time. Live they were a different beast to the record, and their songs took on a gritter, high powered element that only a live stage with real instruments can create, as opposed to their overly shiny produced record sound. The Australian version of their album is a bit unique too, its like an album length version of Promosexual. "Johnny Chrome & Silver" was getting high rotation in alternative niteclubs at the time in Australia. Looking back, they were a bit of an underrated band.

I saw these guys live in Sydney late '96 / early '97 when they were in Australia for a short promo trip.
