Yeah, "predictable" is probably fair, but I'm not sure who better picks would have been. No one really knew about Amy Winehouse or Sharon Jones when this was filmed - it was filmed at the end of the Bigger Bang tour, which was in late 2005/early 2006. Winehouse and Jones didn't really break in the US until 2007.

Ha, I saw this one at the Paramount theater and as an appropriate enough here's to ya to KR I downed a whole fifth of Jim Beam during it...

I think the whole thing is pretty good and energetic if not ultimately pretty forgettable. I think it's funny that Jagger basically treats the whole thing as an aerobics class. At first I was shocked at how agile he still was, then humbled, then somewhere around the halfway point I just wanted to scream 'we GET it, you're fit!' When the showboating does grow tiresome it serves as a reminder of how wonderful the restraint and subtley of someone underappreciated like Graham Parker is, who could have shimmied and shaked this much to a lot of his early stuff but wisely didn't. Or at least not in so much of a 'look at me way.'

I thought the choices of Jack White and Christina Aguilera were kind of boring and predictable. I think she has a good voice, but I wish they had gone with someone more interesting and um.... black. Like Sharon Jones. Or if it had to be some go-to white chick Amy Winehouse. She was probably shooting up or something.

And lastly, on a side note, Keith Richards seemed off tempo a LOT, I thought. Was it just me? Is that how he plays usually?

Unfortunately, much of the supposed chaos and disorganization at the beginning was orchestrated -- that is, falsified. Made up. I think Hitsville documented this; I'll see if I can dig up the link.
