My in to Lanois was by Dave Matthews covering "The Maker" and "Still Water". I love both of their versions of "The Maker" and when the two of them did it together with Emmylou Harris in 2001 I was in heaven.

I have never seen Lanois play live, but I do find a lot of his music mesmerizing. I don't think I've ever cried because a piece of music has moved me (call me callous), but I came close to shedding a tear when I heard Mark Knopfler play "Romeo and Juliet" live.

And what was Charlie Sexton doing at a Daniel Lanois concert? You got your foot stepped on, but hey, you got a beer out him. Nice!

Wow! A post about Lanois! Very cool. Back when "Fpr the Beauty of Wynona" came out, a friend of mine was working for Daniel. He took me to a show down in San Diego that was one of the most emotionally moving nights of my entire life. I had never cried from music before, and I haven't since. The three musicians (Daniel, Brian Blade on drums and Darryl Jones on Bass) were so powerful, lush and beautiful..I wept uncontrollably. Plus after the show we got to go backstage and Charlie Sexton stepped on my foot and bought me a beer, If you haven't seen Daniel live, you must!
Personally, the song that get's me the most on Wynona is "Death of a Train" That one is high on my list of last sounds I could hear before I die.
