Ric's motto as a performer was “no rock-star backflips.” I saw The Cars on their Heartbeat City tour and they were so un-animated that I might as well have closed my eyes and pretended I was inside a big FM radio. Still love 'em, though.

Beatitude is one of my favorite LPs of all time. And while you may have preferred “Jimmy Jimmy,” I thought the best track was the pure-pop “A Quick One” which led off side two.

“Something to Grab For” was a really good video — I remember being genuinely surprised at the end when Ric doesn't get the girl, but I guess it wouldn't be a Ric Ocasek song if he wasn't pining away for something that he couldn't have.

It's my favorite live album by the band. The performance piece they shot (and was aired on MTV back in the day) was sublime — despite the fact the cameras used were getting burn streaks from the stage lighting. This, of course, was years before they developed filters for direct light exposure.

My step dad was raised Catholic and found it amusing when he heard U2's “Gloria.” I still love the song, but I'm curious about the “lost lyrics” that was supposed to be part of the album the band intended to produce before October. I know that Bono got the book of lyrics back a couple of years ago, but no word on if they have recorded songs based on those lyrics.

The keyboard sound on the “Axel F Theme” is pretty much identical to what Herbie was grinding out on “Rockit.”

I do have Under a Blood Red Sky and agree it's a great live album, but the recorded version of "Gloria" got radio airplay due to the exposure MTV gave the band. The live version was released after War and by that time, the band was huge.

I think the video director knew that in order for the video to be interesting ('cause let's face it Ric is not the most dynamic performer), he had to add some eye candy-o.

I went to a Catholic high school, and “Gloria” caused a lot of excitement among the teachers and parents. Kids listening to a rock song that had lines from the old Catholic mass! How trippy!
