I would think Ms. James would give Beyonce ‘kudos’ for a job well done. The PRESIDENT’s people asked her to sing at the ball. Ms. James should take it up with them. Geez, please!!!

Hmmm this one is a toughy. While they're both D-Fabulous, I think Etta had her time and now it's Beyonce's. She should be her mentor as opposed to cat fighting.

I cannot make up my mind on Beyonce. While she's no Etta, there are so many less talented performers in the genre, she looks/sounds really good to me at times.

Wasn't Etta already a star before she was “discovered” by Leonard Chess?

Totally agree w/ you on the gems-to-cheese ratio on any of her compilations, including the Chess Box, which I snagged at my local library and eagerly ripped when I got home that day, only to be slightly disconcerted at the amount of “Bobby Is His Name” type songs. I guess in my mind I always have her pegged as this smoking blues/soul singer…but, then AS now, I guess some musicians do what they think they have to do to attain the level of fame they desire…

Beyonce's got the pipes and the looks and the “it” factor, I'll give her that much. But her music does nothing for me…
