Your inception of the bike fall is incorrect. The trashing of the bike represents his personal suicide and ending of the lives he tried to live. He gave up on trying to fit in essentially.
The original ending that Pete Townshend had written "Jimmy steals a boat and takes it to a rock in the middle of the sea. Here, when he comes down off his high, he finds the boat has drifted away and that he is now stranded, alone and forgotten. As a storm rages around him, Jimmy has an epiphany. After all the different people he's been, he finally knows for sure who he is: himself.
It's another plea to drown, only this time in the rain. Jimmy goes through a suicide crisis. He surrenders to the inevitable, and you know, you know, when it's over and he goes back to town he'll be going through the same shit, being in the same terrible family situation and so on, but he's moved up a level. He's weak still, but there's a strength in that weakness. He's in danger of maturing."

The ending of the movie was okay, but could have been better. Your inception of the bike fall is incorrect.
