Name That Tune, Game Thirty-Four

David Medsker June 8, 2009 63

It’s back, bitches!

While our beloved Scraps continues to work his way back from the stroke he suffered late last year, Lord Jefito has granted my wish to resurrect Name That Tune because, well, I missed it as much as you guys did. Fret not, Cover Me fans, the album cover quiz will be back next week and every other week going forward.

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses with the words “OFFICIAL UPDATE.”
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-five very brief song clips. Please bear in mind that both my record collection and knowledge of music are probably 5% of that of Scraps’, so these quizzes won’t be nearly as comprehensive – or even hit-based – as his were. I will use mostly well-known songs, but I reserve the right to use something obscure if it suits my needs, like it does this week.

There is also no puzzle or acrostic this week, but there is a theme.

And here are the clips:

The Ting Tings, the Who and “Fix Me Now” are correct. Welcome to the game, Elaine!

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

That was a hard one, because it's almost all vocals.

  • Hank

22 is “Watch me bleeed” by Tears For Fears

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Tears for Fears is correct. One left. It's a cover, and it was released in 1990. That's all I'm telling you.

  • TheCloneRanger

    hmm.. I must confess I don't know… but…
the sax sounds like either sanborn or jim horn
the keys sound like elton john

didn't elton john record a cover version of “give peace a chance” for the 1990 box set?

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Not Elton John. The sax is by Kirk Whalum.

#9 everything but the girl – take me

Everything but the Girl is correct. Thanks for playing, everyone. Cover Me returns next week, but Name That Tune will return in two weeks.
