Perhaps best known as percussionist for Polaris Music Prize winners Karkwa, QuÁ©bec’s Julien Sagot has been making a name for himself of late with his sophomore solo LP, the brazenly eclectic weird-pop masterpiece Valse 333. Coming on the heels of Valse 333‘s Juno Award nomination in the Best Francophone Album category is the album’s latest single, the loopy, jittery “Docteur C”, which is accompanied by an equally spooky video that should delight fans of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s surrealism and Michel Gondry’s handmade in-camera effects. You can stream or purchase Valse 333 and its predecessor, 2012’s Piano Mal, on Bandcamp.

When Thierry Côté isn't absorbing popular culture minutiae, he spends most of his time researching music, politics and international relations. He lives behind the digital Iron Curtain that is the Canadian border, where he likes to complain about his lack of access to Hulu, Spotify, Amazon MP3 deals, and most of what the rest of the Popdose staff enjoys freely.
