Much obliged for the comments. If CHE is a thesis fllm, I think I'd rather see it at home than at a theater. Pop my own popcorn, with the fast-forward button at the ready. But I'll see Soderbergh's planned Liberace biopic (from Che to Liberace!) at the multiplex, with sequins. (The Liberace Museum in Vegas is unmissable.)

Indeed, I see stroller matinees in my changed future. Larissa wants to see THE ROAD and THE WRESTLER. “I love that Mickey Rourke,” she says.

Brilliant work as always, Bob. Doesn't the Park Slope/Cobble Hill/BAM/wherever multiplex have stroller matinees? (They keep the lights on just a little and turn the sound down a bit, but Zack and Miri will make just as much of a Porno over the sound of screaming babies. Jacob & Catie each survived the occasional lunchtime screening…sort of…

I didn't see any of the films you singled out in Toronto last week, but other friends at the fest raved about Rachel Getting Married -- and this is coming from critics who were at TIFF to see the new films by Olivier Assayas, Claire Denis, Arnaud Desplechin, Jia Zhang-ke, and other world auteurs. Apparently Demme's work in the film is fantastic, and even the anti-Hollywood'ers had nothing but good things to say about Anne Hathaway.

Slumdog Millionaire won the audience prize and TIFF, and whenever I chatted up a stranger while waiting in line, that film was almost always the first one they wanted to talk about. The Wrestler was also very "buzz-y." Che, on the other hand, was a disappointment to everyone I know who saw it, even those who are very sympathetic to Soderbergh and to the film's politics.
