In July 1980 John & Yoko sold ONE COW for $265,000 at the New York State Fair.

Rolling Stone's recent cover story did a good job of covering the Lee Eastman/Allen Klein dispute that helped ensure the band would not only break up, but fail to reunite during the early '70s.

There was also McCartney's attempt, at around the same time his as-told-to "memoir" Many Years from Now was published, to reverse the songwriting credits on many of his biggest Beatle hits to "McCartney-Lennon." It was bad enough when Paul & John spent years tamping down George's blossoming talent as a songwriter, in part to keep their own publishing $$$ flowing. But Paul's move made it clear that he has no perspective on the sanctity of the "Lennon-McCartney" credit, and no understanding that critics & historians generally attribute the too-frequent mediocrity of Paul's post-Beatles songwriting to his loss of Lennon as a collaborator, sounding board and competitor.

My favorite tidbit about the Beatle fortunes is the fact that Yoko, while managing John's $$$ during his late-'70s retirement, invested millions in Holstein cattle–which gave them back a very tidy sum, though the investments later led to disputes between the estate and the IRS. When you think of how talented and influential some of these people are, they should be living like royalty, you know?

Some days, I think everyone needs an MBA, because we all have to know so much in order to avoid being ripped off. Isn't that depressing?

I live in Chicago, and here you see the real tragedy: all the blues musicians who were totally ripped off on their royalties.
