But looking at the rationale for flouting the laws governing 501 (c)(3) organizations by religious organizations that participated in last week's protest (or whatever you want to call it) seems to come down to what these churches accept as the real Constitution vs "liberal" laws designed to erode religious and political freedoms. Since the 1954 tax law change governing political advocacy was spearheaded by LBJ, I'm thinking that these churches view the law as some kind of conspiracy to essentially "hush them up" -- which is easy to spin if you're a fire and brimstone preacher whose flock is in agreement with you. <br><br>As a footnote ...<br><br>I found a document authored by the Pew Forum on Political and Social life that states all organizations that fall under the 503(c)(3) status cannot intervene in political campaigns.
