Green Day was certainly able to bottle lightning with American Idiot, weren't they. Good thing they are taking their time on their next album 'cause it's going to be tough to do a good follow up.

It'll be tough to top Green Day for mixing political and chart success.

Too bad Midnight Oil isn't active right now, but I guess Peter Garrett can settle for being Minister of the Environment in Australia. Could any Americans make the music-to-elected-office transition?

In 2004 I bought Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now", an album full of powerful anthems and protest songs. The title track, "Rich Man's War" and the cinematic, apocalyptic "Warrior" could all slip into this playlist.
