How much?"<br>How often if at all does anyone ask a biracial child with some African American DNA - how much Black are you?<br>But now there is a new group that's going to face this kind of nonsense, the Muslim American - so if we DO manage to shift some of the onus of prejudice off of one (or maybe 2 someday if they ever do something like free Leonard Peltier) it will probably simply carry the meme over and mutte itself into a new version of - they deserve it, they don't -look think act feel pray have sex with whatever- like us.<br>somedays I think monkeys shoulda never left the trees.<br>I wish I could be more optimistic but...... It's merely the concept of forming a posse to catch profilers that sounds so silly, and "Freedom Shopping" conjures visions of northeastern college students in their DKNY busing south to entrap clerks at a Wal-Mart in Alabama. (I'm sure he meant it humorously, but in a book that contains practically no irony whatsoever, the one joke kinda falls flat.) Oh, I have absolutely no doubt that profiling exists in all sorts of stores as well as on the city streets and lots of other places, and that it should be called out whenever it's noticed. It's merely the concept of forming a posse to catch profilers that sounds so silly, and “Freedom Shopping” conjures visions of northeastern college students in their DKNY busing south to entrap clerks at a Wal-Mart in Alabama. However, my own experience shopping alone versus shopping with my wife (who is white) is one where the level of customer service, or scrutiny from security guards, increases or decreases based on who I'm with. In 2002, my family took a trip to Hawai'i and we got horrible treatment from taxi drivers, airport security and even at restaurants -- mostly from folks who were native Hawaiian. So, in a way, privileging whiteness permeates the culture in such a way that the old colonial model of racial hierarchy gets reinforced in new subtle and not-so-subtle ways. <br><br>However, in my daughter's cohort (and this is bound by our geographical location, of course) the sense of white privilege is almost non-existent -- or so it seems from talking to her and her friends.
