Buffett warned about derivatives being like ticking time bombs. Greenspan said in 2003 derivatives were "extraordinarily useful" to transfer risk to those willing to take it on -- he opposed regulation. Bernanke was "sanguine" about derivatives in his 2005 confirmation hearings for the head of the Federal Reserve spot. Treasury's Paulson said he was "wary" of major changes in regulating derivatives -- in his confirmation hearings only last year. These old quotes, searched out over at <a href="http://propublica.org" rel="nofollow">propublica.org</a>, make for some interesting reading. Cox over at the SEC was unconcerned, as well. <br><br>Now the bomb has blown up in their faces, and their solution is to throw money (other people's money) blindly at anything that seems to be failing.
