Popdose ’80s Sitcom March Madness – Small Bracket, Round 2

Popdose Presents: ’80s Sitcom March Madness (Second Round, Part 2)

Popdose Presents March Madness: '80s Sitcoms banner

If there’s one thing we at Popdose love more than 1980s sitcoms it’s March Madness. Actually that’s not true at all, but we do love ’80s sitcoms. Some of them at any rate. But since America seems to love tournaments in bracket form, we’re running one of our own this year. To make things even more fun and exciting we’re leaving it to you, our loyal readers, to determine which shows win and which get canceled!

We’ve made it through the first round, and we’re down to a field of 32 shows. As with the first round, the second will be split into two posts to prevent voter fatigue. Today’s voting is for Region 3 (The Workplace) and Region 4 (Everything Else), and will determine which shows make it to the Sweet 16. If you need a recap of the rules or the selection process, click here.

It’s getting tougher to make some of these calls. Night Court vs. Murphy Brown? My love of Night Court held true, but that hurt. And as much as I’d love to have picked Sledge Hammer, Mork and Mindy won out.

The next round is gonna be even worse…

Indeed. It gets brutal starting Wednesday.

Head of the Class vs. Who’s The Boss was the most difficult for me. Gun shot or stab wound?

Head of the Class all the way! It’s the Hesseman Factor that makes the difference.

  • chadwicktron

Taxi vs Moonlighting? Can we vote for a draw?

  • http://www.popdose.com/ DwDunphy

Just one season’s worth of Hesseman though. Then it got all Scotchy.

  • http://www.popdose.com/ DwDunphy

That was tough too. I went with Taxi only because of the two it was the most “sitcom” of the two.

  • http://www.grayflannelsuit.net/ Chris Holmes

Hesseman actually was on for all but the last year.

Really? Jeez, I thought it was the other way around and Billy Connolly was the long-timer…or maybe it just felt that way.

  • breadalbane

Moonlighting also has a brutal drop-off in quality towards the end. Several late-period episodes are embarrassingly bad…

  • http://twitter.com/mordalo Mordalo

I’d completely forgotten that Billy Connolly was on Head of the Class. I think he’s one of the funniest comedians out there, and an excellent actor.

Agreed. If I ever get around to compiling a list of once-great shows that went completely off the rails, Moonlighting gets on it.
