Not too long after Orianthi sat down with Popdose to discuss her new album Heaven in This Hell (read our complete interview here), she plugged in with KCRW’s Nic Harcourt for an exclusive live session and extended interview.

While the cut, “You Don’t Wanna Know,” appears in blistering full band form on her stellar Dave Stewart-produced album, here Orianthi and rhythm guitarist Cyril Niccolai more than hold their own. This raw version highlights her vocal prowess but only alludes to the full-on guitar slinging you’ll hear on the LP. Orianthi is one of the best axe shredders in the business; on the new album she leans in to establish herself atop metal school’s longstanding boy’s club.

Pop, Hip/Hop, EDM, folk revival and country dominate the rest of the charts, so it’s refreshing (and long overdue) to see some good old fashioned Sunset Strip-era rock and roll make a mainstream comeback. Ever since its release, Heaven has been steadily building steam in the US and abroad. This week it lands the top ten of the iTunes Rock Albums chart.

Orianthi has a few more appearances on deck to promote the platter before hitting the road again with Alice Cooper — so catch her while you can.
