Pulling Rank: The Studio Albums of the B-52′s

Pulling Rank is a column in which Kelly Stitzel ranks a variety of pop culture-related things with little to no commentary, but sometimes with audio or visual accompaniment. There’s no scientific method to the rankings; these are just Kelly’s opinions. You’ll probably disagree with her — just don’t be a dick about it.

I have been on a major B-52′s kick recently, so I thought it’d be fun to rank their proper studio albums. For the most part, their early output is flawless, so I had a tough time with this one. I’ve ranked them in order of my favorite to least favorite.

1. Bouncing Off the Satellites (1986)

2. Wild Planet (1980)

3. The B-52′s (1979)

4. Cosmic Thing (1989)

5. Whammy! (1983)

6. Funplex (2008)

7. Good Stuff (1992)

  • Blerdy McBlerderson

I’d probably go with the first one as the best, with Wild Planet a close second. It’s amazing how far the fall-off was between Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff, which is pretty much unlistenable.

  • Belmont

But they eventually came back very strong with “Funplex”, which is full of great songs and that real B52′s spirit!
