It's that deep in the national psychology and may never come out. As for young, ass-kicking girls, Japan views itself as the youthful innocent that rises above the domination of the world.

I was more into Battle Of The Planets myself, but I will definitely try to add my two cents about the psychology of Anime – the images and themes of world decimation stem directly from Hiroshima. I don't think anything before or since has ever been able to bring me that much joy. I still get chills during the opening sequence when the deck opens up and the Veritech fighter rises and the music starts. Hell, I'm getting the shivers just thinking about it right now.

I lived for this show when I was twelve. I had read somewhere that Jake Gyllenhaal was attached to the film project. There is also (apparently) a Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) film in the works as well.

Robotech was always more “Days of Our Lives” than “Transformers” and for that exact reason I was and continue to be a huge fan of the series.
