We went into this film with no expectations, not entirely sure what we were about to see. Starting with the Universal Studios logo and seamlessly transitioning into a voiceover introduction... that seamlessly transitions into a classroom discussion... that seamlessly (ahem) transitions into a medical facility introducing two of the main characters... that seamlessly transitions into the introduction of the main antagonist.... By the time the title came up on the screen we had bought into the story and were literally breathless with anticipation. The scene that plays while the credits roll introduces the rest of the cast and by the time the movie "lands" (both figuratively and literally) you've learned the entire background of this sci-fi western.

Whether or not you buy into the genre is another story, but the opening minutes of this film stand up as one of the best.

The one you always leave out is the opening of Serenity.
