So am I (am pessimistic). They remade Taxi (French film with Samy Naceri) and the Hollywood version (with Queen Latifah) was simply painful to watch. And I can't imagine anyone but Jacques Villeret pulling off the character of François Pignon! “Dîner de cons” is a classic and shouldn't be tampered with! Period.

The pretty awful La Jetee is ranked 135 on the meta-list of greatest films (12 Monkeys is appropriately not even in the top 1000):

IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and any other film website I've seen, give La Jetee a better score than 12 Monkeys. Of course all of this is pretty meaningless. The fact is I think La Jetee is better so it is. You're only accurate statement is saying that 12 Monkeys is a movie. I think even Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis and Terry Gilliam would think you are an idiot for saying their own remake is better.

12 MONKEYS is good but LA JETEE remains an influential masterpiece almost 50 years later.

Francis Veber's films are almost always better than their remakes, in part because they're usually a tidy 85 minutes or so. He's not one to belabor a joke. THE DINNER GAME is something of a mistranslation, as the film doesn't even get to the dinner.

Really? La Jetee was pretty awful. The only thing interesting about that film is the story behind why it was made into a mockumentary. 12 monkeys beats that by actually being a movie.
