I love Magnificent Seven, but I didn't include it because I had always thought that it wasn't an “official” remake, but rather a film that was heavily inspired by Seven Samurai. But upon reflection, you're right Bob, I think I should have included it. (Hell, I even like Battle Beyond the Stars!)

'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' was way ahead of the times so it should be on every list. The 1993 series extension – Abel Ferrara's “Body Snatchers” starring Forest Whitaker, Billy Wirth, R. Lee Ermey and Gabrielle Anwar was also good, especially the atmosphere and special effects but many would disagree. 'Always' was boring.

Glad to see my favorite – John Carpenter on the list. Perhaps, Popdose could do a special review of his films and music/soundtracks. He deserves it.

The Thing is just about the most perfect John Carpenter movie, and here's why: what trips Carpenter up the most is when he has to make a John Carpenter Movie, being that which people expect of him. When he doesn't have to worry about those expectations, he can do what he does best and ultimately adds his imprimatur to it anyhow.

About the only single exception to this rule is Big Trouble In Little China, where he's really trying way too hard, but the hellzapoppin' energy of the thing makes it hard to notice. Of course, that's just me. I know that at least 70% of the people who have seen Big Trouble hate it intensely.

I think the remake of THE BLOB was an excellent B film, too. Good fun and great special FX.

And I'm still waiting for a true adaptation of I AM LEGEND that sticks closer to the Matheson book. The Will Smith vehicle was great for the first hour, then became just another action movie. Although THE OMEGA MAN is loosely based on the book, it's still a ton of laughs.
