Song-Off Jr.: Neuromancer

Sonic Youth – “The Sprawl”

Straylight Run – “Existentialism on Prom Night”

“He sat beside Molly in filtered sunlight on the rim of a dry concrete fountain, letting the endless stream of faces recapitulate the stages of his life. First a child with hooded eyes, a street boy, hands relaxed and ready at his sides; then a teenager, face smooth and cryptic beneath red glasses. Case remembered fighting on a rooftop at seventeen, silent combat in the rose glow of the dawn geodesics. He shifted on the concrete, feeling it rough and cool through the thin black denim. Nothing here like the electric dance of Ninsei. This was different commerce, a different rhythm, in the smell of fast food and perfume and fresh summer sweat.” — William Gibson

Out of curiosity, how many folks here have read Neuromancer? It's one of my personal favorites.

I think I (first) read Neuromancer at the end of the eighties or beginning of the nineties…is it that old? Started with Burning Chrome, then immediately read the others. At the time, I was trying to program my computer to do wireframe 3D graphics while listening to electronic music like Front 242 I was totally tripping out on Gibson's world. I particularly loved the virtual beach-prison Wintermute traps Case in. At one point I had a computer I called Wintermute.

I feel guilty for only learning this now, but there’s actually a song called “Neuromancer” by Billy Idol.

Is it on that horrible “Cyberpunk” record?
