Yes, the fact that Spielberg is directing “Kingdom” is a good sign. He backed out of directing “Rain Man” in '88 so that he could direct “Last Crusade,” which he regretted somewhat, but I think he also wanted to redeem himself in the eyes of Indiana Jones fans for “Temple of Doom.” He's still apologizing for that one, which I don't think he needs to do. (Lucas claims it's so dark because he was going through a divorce when he came up with the story. But Spielberg certainly drove home the dark qualities in his direction.)

I thought “Jurassic Park III” was a huge improvement over “The Lost World.” I wonder if “Jurassic Park IV” will bring back Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, AND Laura Dern somehow. It's been in development for a long, long time.

I'm looking forward to “Indy 4″ because Spielberg is behind the wheel. I know Lucas has influence, but as long as he's busy counting beans and not pitching too much creative influence, we're safe. The kink in that cloth is that Spielberg is no longer the joyful fellow he was in the 80s. His “vision” has become as dark and doubtful as Janusz Kaminski's lighting schemes. Still, I have hope.

Stallone should just stop. Already “Rambo” is seen as a joke and no one has actually watched the thing yet… Sly is still squeezing blood from old stones, but damn, they're really old stones!

And if you need more depressing news from sequel-land, Rob Cohen is helming the next Mummy movie without Rachael Weisz or Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep (because it's a Chinese mummy now, played by Jet Li), and Joe Johnston is poised to present “Thank God For Meteors: Jurassic Park 4″, most likely slated for Summer 2009.
