Name That Tune, Game Thirty-Five

Howdilly ho, Popdoserinos! Time for another Medskerrific game of Name That Tune. I used to think I had a good sized CD collection…until I started running this game. Now, it seems infinitely small.

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses with the words “OFFICIAL UPDATE.”
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-five very brief song clips. Please bear in mind that both my record collection and knowledge of music are probably 5% of that of Scraps’, so these quizzes won’t be nearly as comprehensive – or even hit-based – as his were. I will use mostly well-known songs, but I reserve the right to use something obscure if it suits my needs, like it does this week. Live versions and covers are also fair game, though I will stay away from remixes, because that’s just mean.

There is a puzzle song, with the other songs offering a clue as to its identity. It will probably take you three and a half seconds to figure it out. If that.

Name That Tune, Game Thirty-Four

It’s back, bitches!

While our beloved Scraps continues to work his way back from the stroke he suffered late last year, Lord Jefito has granted my wish to resurrect Name That Tune because, well, I missed it as much as you guys did. Fret not, Cover Me fans, the album cover quiz will be back next week and every other week going forward.

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses with the words “OFFICIAL UPDATE.”
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

Name That Tune, Game Thirty-Three

The show must go on. Scraps may be temporarily out of action, but the rest of the Popdose staff is picking up the slack and carrying on with Name That Tune in the hopes that our efforts come remotely close to the lofty standards he set for us all.

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses with the words “OFFICIAL UPDATE.”
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-three very brief song clips. Most of the songs are well known, though for the sake of this game (which will make sense once you’ve started playing), some of them are obscure. The clips are drawn from a variety of styles and decades. It’s likely that you’ll find a few of them instantly recognizable, while a few others you won’t know at all (but other people will, and you can’t hold it against them). There is no puzzle song this week, sorry. There is also no acrostic this time, however the clips all have something in common. I do not suspect it will take you long to figure out what this week’s theme is. Heck, you might be able to guess it without listening to a single track.

Name That Tune, Game Thirty-One

  • The Puzzle clip may only be guessed once between updates, but may still be guessed if you have used up your regular three guesses.
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-one very brief song clips. Most of the songs are well known; none of them are obscure. The clips are drawn from a variety of styles and decades. It’s likely that you’ll find a few of them instantly recognizable, while a few others you won’t know at all (but other people will, and they’ll probably be smug about it, too). There are two parts to this game. The first is guessing the songs themselves. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 21). Once again, we’re doing an acrostic game: This time, the first letter of the name of the ARTIST for the first 20 clips spells out a clue to the identity of the puzzle song. (And of course, if the puzzle song is guessed early, that ought to help nail down the rest of the songs.) Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll upload longer clips.

Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Eight: Coverville Edition

Hi everyone — Brian Ibbott here from the Coverville radio show/podcast here with the twenty-eighth edition of Name That Tune. Scraps was generous enough to offer me the chance to guest host this week, and I’m honored to do so. I hope that the clips I’m presenting below are able to maintain the quality (and difficulty) that you’ve come to expect form this feature. And while I’ve got your ear, if you like rare and unusual cover versions of songs, you might like my show, which you can find at Coverville.com. And now the rules, which haven’t changed:
