Jerry Garcia's great pedal steel is hidden in the mix. I like the new version but it is a different version. I guess I'll have to dig out my vinyl copy to verify these impressions. Still it's a great album and a fun listen with the new mix. But it's defiintely a different record.
Michael Connor

I think that the drums have been redone and the mix on my favorite song , I Used To Be a King” are different. There is some subsequent work that is respectable, but this period represents these artists at their creative peaks.

"Beginners", although slight on its face, may be the side that holds up the best. I like "If I Could Only Remember My Name" but there aren't many actual songs on it, and it is a fair critique to say that for all that it is quite pretty, it is also the noodlings of an egoist who was certain that his noodlings were by definition worthwhile. The Stills side is likewise the work of a gigantic ego-- only Stephen Stills would mix both Clapton and Hendrix under his own guitar.

Nash was the glue. A second banana in the Hollies, he was used to the role, and as a result it was his contribution that held CSN (and sometimes Y) together artistically.

The really odd thing is that the three solo sides you cite– “Name”, “Beginners”, and the Stills debut solo may well be the last completely worthwhile albums any of these cats cut. It is an exceptional piece of music, and this review has enticed me to go out and buy this re-issue.

RIght on, far out, and way cool.<br
