Friday Five : |ˈfrÄ«dā – fÄ«v| : On the sixth day of every week, I hit the shuffle button in iTunes and share the first five tracks and thought for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, occasionally we’ll have a guest, but most of the time it’s just me. The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up the media player of your choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments.

The Five:

“Got Your Money (feat. Kelis)” by Ol’ Dirty Bastard (from Nigga Please, 1999)

O.D.B. may not have been my favorite Wu-Tang Clan disciple, but he definitely produced some entertaining jams.

“Let’s Get Married” by Jagged Edge (from Essential R&B: 90’s Anthems (disc 3), 2010)

I vaguely recall Jagged Edge being a thing, and I was pretty heavily tuned-in to R&B in the ’90s. I remember this song, specifically, and maybe one other.

“Enid” by Barenaked Ladies (from Disc One: All Their Greatest Hits: 1991-2001, 2001)

Here’s a quick peek behind the process behind The Friday Five: most weeks, I’m able to get ahead of the Five and spend a little time on it, gussy it up—you know make it something that you might want to read. Other weeks—this week being an example of this—I’m scrambling to get anything up for the faithful among you who keep coming back for the musical voyeurism. I didn’t actually get to listen to this song, as I had to field a phone call during its play time (and, frankly a portion of the next song) so I have not a single thing to say about it.

“Rumors” by Timex Social Club (from Like, Omigod! The ’80s Pop Culture Box (Totally) (disc 7), 2002)

Man, this was my jam back in the day. Hell, I still dial this one up at least once, every couple of months.

“Invisible Touch 12″” by Genesis (from Archive #2 1976-1992 (disc 3), 2000)

… and there’s the phone, again. You guys know my name, look up the number!

What’s on your shuffle today?
