Man, am I so happy to get a copy of that Jann Arden song. I love it!
  • That one reminds me of the summer of 1995. Good times, good times.
  • "Insensitive" (from the same album, I think) reminds me of the summer of '96. That song has some great heartache in it.

I like the Heather Nova, too. Never heard of her until today.

What's up with Elvis? Don't get me wrong, I love him and his wacky voice. There was a time when I thought "Inch By Inch" was the greatest song ever written. But why does he involve himself in these projects where a fine technical singer is called for? I must be missing a piece of the puzzle.

That Rod Stewart song cracks me up. Since it's schizophrenic (I have no one, I have you, you're not here, I'm alone, come back to me, wish I had someone but have no one in mind, you're just a dream, what's it feel like to have a girlfriend) I'm gonna ask if it was written by Diane Warren, or some other formula songwriter.

This Jann Arden song is great! I love that gospel choir background.
  • Didn't Robert Palmer do "Some Guys" originally? Jeff?

Costello's voice is the main reason I can't get into a lot of his songs. Yet Graham Parker, whose voice is similar, does the trick for me. I don't know why.
  • "Some Guys Have All The Luck" was originally performed by the R&B group The Persuaders in 1973 - the same guys that did the original "Thin Line Between Love and Hate."
  • Thanks, Jack!

I might be the only one, but I love that Costello & Bacharach album through and through. No, Elvis doesn't have the pipes of an old-school Bacharach / David chanteuse, but there's not a moment on that record where he isn't giving it his all, and that goes a long way for me.
  • Was it completely random that you had an LL Cool J song and a Kool Moe Dee song on this mix, Jeff, since the Moe Dee song is a "dis" track about LL? Which song or songs of LL's are about Moe Dee?
  • Totally, beautifully random...and although I knew the Moe track was an LL dis, I don't know enough about their feud to name the songs involved. Maybe a post is in order.
  • I remember hearing back in the '90s that their feud was imaginary, just a way to help each other sell their product through "battle raps," but who knows.
