I've been able to fall asleep to Metal Machine Music (to give the most abrasive example). The key is insignificant volume (and treble, in Reed's case). Most nights, though, I leave it up to Eno and/or Budd.

To be fair, I should have mentioned that there are a handful of truly beautiful moments across the two discs with “Rhubarb” standing out as, indeed, the prettiest. The thought of falling asleep to this however, sounds like an awful idea.

I used to open my show every week with “Cliffs” (as I've always seen it listed). It wasn't as effective when I moved to afternoons, so I eventually switched to kicking off with a different Beach Boys (or related) cut. Still listen to SAW2 at bedtime, albeit at low volume. (You forgot to mention how pretty “Rhubarb” is. Don'cha think?)

The files didn't open for me, but I remember hearing his music in the mid-90s and being really torn over whether I liked it or not. Your description of it as “challenging and unsettling” is right on the mark.
