BEST BETS, FEBRUARY 2008:

To take a date: The Farnsworth Invention
(Go with the hot, intellectual thing.)

To take your parents: August: Osage County
(Relatable family drama that will make your family look normal.)

For a laugh: Avenue Q
(Obvious but solid entertainment; try the lottery for cheap tickets two and a half hours before the show.)

For a good story: The Seafarer
(The plot has holes, but the characters are fantastic.)

Cheap but awesome: Speech & Debate
(The first of Roundabout Theatre’s new “Underground” series.)

Quick, before it closes: Speech & Debate
(Closes February 24 after a very extended run.)

Let us be the first to tell you: In the Heights
(Previews begin February 14 for this awesome new musical.)

    Two words: Passing Strange

Previews at the Belacso start February 8th.
If the run at the Public Theatre last summer was any indication, this is gonna blow some minds. I'm gonna fly out from L.A. to see it again. So much better than Spring Awakening.

Man, why is Avenue Q still around? I thought that people would be past the schtick of "look that puppet's saying a bad word - I'm surprised, therefore amused." Avenue Q is the theatrical equivalent to a wiffle ball bat to the nuts on America's Funniest Home Videos.
