Some of these older BBC comedies really were outstanding. I'd love to have a chance to sit down and watch this series.

The remake proved the need for a television equivalent of "straight to DVD".

What surprised me was how slowly things developed. In an American series, Reggie would have faked his death and taken on a new identity within the first 10 minutes of the first episode. We never would have had the luxury of getting to know the people in his life and watched how routine his existence had become.

The PR people for this DVD release probably hate me because it took me so long to write this review (sorry) but I got caught up in the show and really wanted to see what happens.

They just remade it here in the UK with Martin Clunes, who was one of the Men Behaving Badly. I never saw it but word wasn't good.

It's really a fascinating series, isn't it? I loved it, although I couldn't help but be aware of how a show that changes as much as this one did throughout its run - Hell, throughout each SEASON - would never have made it in the States. Not that it stopped them from trying: ABC attempted "Reggie," starring Richard Mulligan, but it bellyflopped after only a couple of episodes. I have no idea how it compared to the original, but I can only imagine that it paled profoundly.
