Really one of my favourite albums of the era. I've always felt he had a great singing voice. What a waste. But if there are any clever/opportunistic PR people out there, 2008 should feature a media-created Battle of the Ex'es – the new Whitney album versus the new Bobby album: which one is better? Sounds ideal for E!'s ridiculous Daily Top 10. Having said that, I find myself slowly but surely getting more excited for Whitney's comeback album this year.

Dagnabbit, you're right. Caught me again. I even owned Posion on cassette. I got the remix version of “Do Me”, where they rap this line, to the breakdown parts of “Motownphilly”, which have a similar beat and groove.

I'll see if I can get this corrected. Thanks again Mike.

Actually, “hip-hop smoothed out on the R&B tip with a pop feel appeal to it” was a phrase coined by Brown's former bandmates (and Boyz II Men discoverers) Bell Biv DeVoe (it's on the cover of both the “Poison” album and it's remixed follow up).

If Bobby had kept himself together he could have had a much longer career. Some of his music really was excellent. Unfortunately it all fell into ruin.

I still like a lot of his music though. And that's My Prerogative.

Did B. Brown dry hump the girl? I can't remember now, but I do remember the video being on MTV a lot when I was in seventh grade.

“Don't Be Cruel” really was a good album. Well, the hits were good anyway — looking at the track listing on AllMusic.com, I can't say I remember tracks 7 through 10 at all, and I did own the cassette back in middle school. I also don't remember anything from the second album except for “Humpin' Around,” which wasn't that great. Sorry, THIRD album — I always forget that “King of Stage,” from '87, was Brown's first.

Captain Video did a good job covering the “Every Little Step” video three years ago:
