Indeed – Sound The Alarm is an apt title for an artist with the legend and magnitude of the great Booker T. Jones. Back on Stax Records, the label whose sound he helped shape and define, Booker T.’s new album has a classic feel with a lush and modern vibe – all in all, a very happy medium. Flavors of the 60’s and 70’s abound – think Memphis and Philadelphia grooves – and you have the foundation, along with jazz, smooth soul and gospel feels. A perfect sunny-day listen. The standout tracks are plentiful, but check out “Your Love Is No Love”, “Feel Good”, “66 Impala” and the title track. Guests include singers Anthony Hamilton, Estelle, Gary Clark Jr. and the fantastic band that made headlines by being the opening act for The Who, Vintage Trouble.
This album is a must. Booker T. shows why he’s still the master.
