Friday Five : |ˈfrÄ«dÄ – fÄ«v| : On the sixth day of every week, I hit the shuffle button in iTunes and share the first five tracks and thought for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, occasionally we’ll have a guest, but most of the time it’s just me. The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up the media player of your choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments.
The Five:
“Blank Pages” by The Album Leaf (from A Chorus of Storytellers, 2010)
Today’s Friday Five, like many before it, is being heard via my headphones which is the perfect listening environment for our first entry. For those of you not familiar, The Album Leaf is a mostly instrumental post-rock band that should be in your library.
“Over the Rainbow” by Melody Gardot (from My One and Only Thrill, 2009)
Miss Gardot puts her samba spin on the Wizard of Oz standard. In as many versions of this song that I’ve heard over my life, nothing really touches Judy Garland’s original.
“Waves” by Guthrie Govan (from Erotic Cakes, 2006)
Do you enjoy instrumental guitar rock? Love guys named Vai, Satch, and Gilbert? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions and you don’t already know who Guthrie Govan is then you owe it to yourself to check him out.
“Idioteque” by Radiohead (from Kid A, 2000)
My wife and I recently started watching Alias on Netflix and I got a good chuckle when Sidney mentioned that she’d “encode the information in a Radiohead MP3 and share it on AudioGalaxy.”
“An Honest Man” by Prince (from Crystal Ball (disc 2), 1999)
I’ve been gathering my thoughts on the whole Prince/Warner Bros. thing over the last few days, which I intend on posting at some point in the next few days. Stay tuned …
What’s on your shuffle today?
