October has come again, my children of the night. The sun sinks low in the northern sky, and . . . something else rises from the earth once more to walk among you. It can only be the latest in Popdose’s notorious Halloween mixtape series — a seamless 78-minute collage of continuous music and sound, free as always for your streaming and downloading pleasure.

And in case you are unfamiliar with our whole devilish deal, know ye that this year’s headphone horrorshow is just one in a collection, now seventeen installments strong and showing no signs of slowing, of irreproducible audio experiences. We’ve got a total of twenty-one-plus hours of seasonal favorites, obscure apocrypha, haunted blues, boneyard bops, spoken poetry and campfire tales.

You’re not going to find anything like this on any commercial streaming service; many (if not most) of the hundreds of source tracks are out of print or otherwise unavailable — not to mention the monstrous mash-ups and montages created exclusively for this series — and all of it is stitched together with mad love by the unhallowed hands of your old fiend Jack Fear for your festive needs: soundtracking long car trips, whiling away the afternoons at the office, and scaring the dickens out of the neighborhood kids.

If you like what you hear, we encourage you to support the individual artists to whatever extent you can.

Enjoy, and until next time, be good to each other. After all — it’s a scary world out there.
