Friday Five : |ˈfrÄ«dÄ – fÄ«v| : On the sixth day of every week, I hit the shuffle button in iTunes and share the first five tracks and thought for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, occasionally we’ll have a guest, but most of the time it’s just me. The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up the media player of your choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments.
The Five:
“Move to Bremerton” from MxPx (from Life in General, 1996)
MxPx always struck me as a totally conscious cop of Social Distortion, without any shred of Social D’s credibility or soul. Aside from a few truly catchy tunes, this is nothing more than generic pop-punk for the Hot Topic set.
“Some People Hate” by Jay-Z (from The Blueprint²: The Gift & The Curse, 2002)
I could never get on board with Jay riding Pac’s jock. They are, at the most base levels, on opposite sides of the game. Jay rarely–if ever–exudes the unbridled, unhinged flow of Pac at his best.
“Hit the Lights” by Metallica (from Kill ’em All, 1983)
Damn, this is week is certainly offering up a variety!
“Your Weather” by Dinosaur Jr. (from Farm, 2009)
I don’t know that I ever got Dinosaur Jr., really. Not that I dislike them, I just never caught the bug to listen to them often.
“Walk on By” by Dionne Warwick (from AM Gold: 1964, 1991)
I’m certain that you are all familiar with Digging For Gold series. This gem was featured in the tenth installment of the series, and outted our own Jon Cummings as nary a fan of the Bacharach / David / Warwick records. On this point, I’m going to side with him as this is all a bit too ham-fisted for me.
What’s on your shuffle today?
