During my 20s, when I was a callow and heartbroken youth, I went on a catastrophic date with a woman who spent half of our dinner talking about her dreams of marrying an Italian man and giving her firstborn son a good, strong Italian name. I don’t remember much of our conversation, but I do know that at one point, I suggested Giuseppe as a potential name and collapsed into a totally ill-advised giggling fit.
Anyway, you know what’s even more Italian than Giuseppe? Stefano de Stefano. I mention this now because that’s the name of the guy who handles vocals, guitar, piano, and harmonica for Pipers, the new trio marking its debut with “Edge of Nowhere,” the lovely, harmony-drenched track embedded below. Check it out — these guys are so much better than that date I went on.
