Yeah, it’s Dave again. Unlike other weeks where I’ve filled in, it’s not because Leslie’s off on one of her usual misadventures. She’s simply had a busy work week. Fortunately for her, concepts like “busy” and “work” are unknown to me, so you get to stare at my stubbly lips again. Isn’t that fun? Anyway, I decided to do something a little different than my previous Soundtracks. Instead of picking random moments in a relationship and singledom, I, good Billy Joel fan that I am, decided to go to extremes.
Song for the Soundtrack of Your Date Tonight
You’ve planned out tonight for months — played it out in your head and worked out exactly how you want it to go. And even though you’re sure that you’ll get the answer, you’re still nervous as hell. It’s a big step, but she’s the one you’ve been looking for all your life. Deep breath. Here it goes.
[Old 97’s, “Question” Satellite Rides, 2001]Song for the Soundtrack of Your No Date Tonight
Well, that’s it. You’ve tried to breathe life back into it, but it’s not working. It started out so perfectly that you can’t believe it’s ending like this. If only you could talk to her to get an explanation, but every time you phone her, all you get is voicemail and a sorry-I-missed-your-call text a few hours later. Part of you wants to stand outside her apartment with a boombox but you know it’s best to cut your losses and move on.
