This joke will date me terribly, but here goes: it’s amusing to get a press release about a production trio (emphasis on trio) named Deuce & Charger, because it reminds me of how the Thompson Twins (yep, emphasis on twins) were a trio (well, they were actually a septet, then a trio, then a duo, but you see what I mean). Shouldn’t there be another name in that…name? Perhaps the ‘deuce’ part of it accounts for two of them, but either way, the group’s track ”Stop the Sky from Falling,” featuring Bianca Gerald on vocals and a lad named Weezy Jefferson as the guest rapper, is indie UK dance pop at its finest. One could easily connect the dots between this and Massive Attack’s ”Unfinished Sympathy,” which is a very good thing as far as we’re concerned, and if you listen closely, you’ll hear Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock’s ”It Takes Two” — which is to say, Lyn Collins’ ”Think (About It)” — pumping through the chorus. Have fun dancing to this one in the bomb shelter.
