The Voice finalist Kat Robichaud is getting ready to release her new album, Misfit Cabaret, an intriguing set of songs that have been featured in her successful San Francisco-based rock opera of the same name. Robichaud drew inspiration for the material from her childhood love of musical theater, ”all things Tim Burton” and more.

The variety show features Kat at the helm, centering on her original music with a rotating cast of eccentric performers. With each show being completely different, Kat Robichaud’s Misfit Cabaret has been playing to sold-out crowds in the San Francisco area over the past few years and continues to gain momentum. For the first time ever, Kat will be taking her Misfit Cabaret on the road and will perform at Seattle’s Hales Ales Palladium on May 19th and 20th.

Popdose is pleased to present an exclusive premiere of ”Bully,” taken from the upcoming album.

“’Bully’ is told from the perspective of Stephen King’s Carrie White, and was written for Kat Robichaud’s Misfit Cabaret: A Very Bloody Misfit Cabaret,” Robichaud shared with Popdose. ”The first time I performed this on stage, I was dressed as Carrie, right after she’s won prom queen. My co-producer Jordan Nathan stood on a ladder behind a shimmery backdrop and dumped a bucket of blood on me. The blood was made primarily from Dial soap, which proceeded to coat my face and painfully blind me for the remaining 10 minutes of the show, which I had to perform with my eyes closed. I did this two nights in a row. On the third morning my eyes were swollen shut. I will never put myself through that again.”

As Robichaud explains, the song reflects her personal high school experience, where she unfortunately had firsthand experience being bullied

“One day I went to school and people were laughing and passing around a xeroxed list of over 100 things someone hated about me in the lunch room,” she recalls. ”It was one of the lowest points in my life and for months I had a hard time showing my face in school. It wrecked my self- esteem for years. Figuring out where I was going to sit at lunch was a nightmare. 15 years later, I decided to reach out to the person who made the list and ask why they did it. They said, “Your weird comfort and confidence in yourself bothered us” and that it was one of the things they’d done in life that they regretted the most. The whole experience eventually made me stronger and definitely helped with internet trolls while I was on The Voice.”

Misfit Cabaret will be released on June 2. The album  is available for pre-order on iTunes and Apple Music.
