The Popdose Guide to Jimmy Smith

Hi all!

Click full screen to get the full effect. Also, just so you know, I’ve never done radio, a podcast, or pencast in my life, so please consider this the rookie effort it is.

Good stuff! This is an entertaining way to compress a huge catalog into a (relatively) quick summary. You've got a good "radio" presence, should use it more often.

I almost saw Jimmy Smith. I was set to attend his first show on what was supposed to be his tour with Joey DeFrancesco in support of "Legacy," but he died the week before the tour was to start. Joey went ahead with the show though, and it became a tribute to Jimmy Smith with Joey and friends (I was at the Oakland show at Yoshi's, James Moody was there jamming with Joey and his band on some tunes). Joey kept Jimmy's organ on stage so that he was still there in spirit. Sad but still a fun show.
  • I checked this out before it ran, but somehow missed the "Jeff Giles is a closet Haircut 100 fan!" graffiti scribbled in the margin.

    Truth hurts, bro.

WHy is it that Haircut 100 is the butt of every good '80s music joke? That and A Flock of Seagulls.
  • This is a fantastic job. You knocked this one out, man.

I love this! Nice job, Mojo.

On a technical note ... I like the way this program allows indexing.

Thanks gents for the kind words, this is new to me, this talking stuff.
  • Mojo, you've got a face MADE for radio, er, pencasting...

Just another h8r who, deep down, wishes he were me <grin>

I've got 20 or 30 years on you and stumbled on this after ordering a Pulse pen to build some college math sites. I listened to Jimmy Smith when he was "new" and this is a terrific overview. I'm already thinking through appendices or next chapters linking to other Hammond B3 players, based on my own experience and collection.

I wonder if I can make my lectures on Linear Algebra as interesting? I'll let you know when they're ready. 8-)
