When the Grateful Dead’s long, strange trip brought them back to the states after a triumphal 1972 European tour, they immediately set up in Veneta, Oregon, for a benefit concert for the Merry Pranksters. There commenced, as the new Sunshine Daydream film and CD attests, one of the most blissed-out, clothes-optional, jam-tastic moments in a career seemingly already overstuffed with them.
Don’t believe us? Sign up for five new prize packs consisting of the dead.net exclusive Sunshine Daydream release (3 CDs and 1 DVD), along with a logo tote bag and a 22×22-inch limited double-sided print, courtesy of Rhino Records.
The Grateful Dead’s Sunshine Daydream project is available for purchase via Dead.net, and at local indie retailers. All proceeds from the original August 27, 1972 show, held at the Olde Renaissance Fairgrounds in Veneta, went to the Ken Kesey family’s Springfield Creamery. Tickets were even printed on the front of the creamery’s yogurt labels.
Here’s how to enter: Simply email Dave Lifton with “Grateful Dead” in the subject line and within the text of your email, ask Dave about those new “touches of grey.” We’ll randomly select five winners.
That gets you into a random-drawing for a set including classic-era interpretations of tracks like “Bertha,” “Greatest Story Ever Told,” “Sing Me Back Home” and “Dark Star,” plus some extra bragging-rights goodies with which to shame your friends. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.
