Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are back at it. The stars of the hit comedy, The Wedding Crashers, reunite for The Internship starring as two salesmen who find themselves suddenly unemployed in their early 40s. With few options in front of them, they apply for a college internship at Google. Both view it as a chance for a new beginning and an opportunity to use their sales skills to get them future jobs at the Internet giant. Almost immediately they find themselves out of touch with the younger generation and struggling to make their wild idea work.
The Internship is funny, as you’d expect from Vaughn and Wilson, but it also has a great deal of heart, especially when the two of them bond with the group of misfits. The film also stars Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) and Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show), as well as a collection of cameos by some very recognizable faces in TV and film. Yes, Will Ferrell does show up.
Popdose has two copies of The Internship Blu-ray to offer to a couple of lucky Popdose readers. To get you geared up for the movie’s home video release, here are a few cinematic memories from previous films by Wilson, Vaughn and their buddies in the ”Frat Pack.”
Zoolander (2001)
Wilson and Ben Stiller take on the roles of two pretty boy models in writer/director Stiller’s cult classic. Wilson and Stiller were hilarious portraying self-centered man-boys obsessed with perfecting their hair and their runway walk. The Blue Steel look developed by Derek Zoolander (Stiller) will go down in movie history. The villain in the film? Will Ferrell. Vaughn also makes a cameo appearance as Zoolander’s coal mining brother.
Old School (2003)
Ferrell, Vaughn, and Luke Wilson are hilarious portraying husbands in their 30s who decide to form a frat house, even though they’re well past their college prime years. This classic comedy reminded people of Vaughn’s comedic charm and kick started Ferrell’s career as a leading man. It’s one that can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Starsky & Hutch (2004)
Ben Stiller and Wilson play the titular characters in this send-up of the beloved 70s TV cop show. Vaughn plays the heavy, in a film that also features Jason Bateman, Snoop Dogg (before he became a Lion) and yes, an appearance by Ferrell.
Anchorman (2004)
There were several great comedies in 2004, but that year will go down as the year we were introduced to Ron Burgundy, arguably Ferrell’s best character. He’s a legend, a ladies man, and a role model for friends like Brick and Champ. In a moment of sheer brilliance, Anchorman brought together six members of the “frat pack” for a street fight between anchormen, representing various news channels and carrying weapons such as a trident, a wooden post, and a chain. Hopefully this year’s long awaited Anchorman sequel will have a similar scene.
Wedding Crashers, the film that proved Wilson and Vaughn had perfect comedic chemistry, brought the laughter and good times. To this day, men still dream of crashing a wedding with John and Jeremy. Maybe they can’t fulfill their dreams, but everyone can rest assured knowing the rules of wedding crashing; ”blend in by standing out” to ”be gone by the sunrise.” What’s that? Yes, there is a Ferrell sighting in Wedding Crashers, as well.
