Friday Five : |ˈfrÄ«dā – fÄ«v| : On the sixth day of every week, I hit the shuffle button in iTunes and share the first five tracks and thought for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, occasionally we’ll have a guest, but most of the time it’s just me. The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up the media player of your choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments.

The Five:

“Flower to Hide” by Catherine Wheel (from Ferment, 1993)

I don’t recall being particularly into Catherine Wheel during their heyday—they existed on the fringe of the scene I was into, but never fell fully into view until later.

“Everybody Have Fun Tonight” by Wang Chung (form Rock of the 80’s, Volume 4, 1993)

While “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” is an undeniable jam, I have always been a bigger fan of “Dance Hall Days.”

“See Me” by Luther Vandross (from Give Me the Reason, 1986)

Man, I had to run to Wikipedia to see who was playing bass on this cut; sure enough, the tune was co-written and performed by Marcus Miller. While I run hot and cold on Luther, Give Me the Reason has always hit the sweet spot for me.

“I Wish” by Stevie Wonder (from Number Ones, 2007)

Stevie! I could go on forever about how much Stevie’s music has shaped my world. Hell, I have gone on about it, over on the Blerd Radio Podcast (which you all listen to, right?)

“Snappy Kakkie” by ZZ Top (from The ZZ Top Sixpack (disc 3: Tejas / El Loco), 1987)

What an odd selection of tunes.

What’s on your shuffle today?
