To all Popdose readers:
Our Name That Tune creator, Scraps, aka Soren DeSelby, suffered a stroke on Monday afternoon.
He is currently hospitalized in Brooklyn, NY. Á‚ He has improved a little over the past few days, but according to his wife Velma on Tuesday, “he has no voluntary muscle motion on his right side, very little on his left, and aphasia — he can hear and process speech, a good 95% or more of the time, but he can’t speak.” Á‚ He is responding to voices, which is a good sign, but he has a very long road ahead of him.
Scraps is a freelance journalist and has no medical insurance.
If there’s one thing we know about the Popdose community, both staff and readers, is that we’re a thoughtful community of people who come together every week to share our love of music and pop culture. Á‚ Scraps worked his tail off providing us with Name That Tune every week, and so many of us have appreciated that effort time and time again. Á‚ So it’s time for us to return the favor.
If you have even a few dollars to spare, we are hoping that you will consider making a donation to help cover what will most likely be thousands and thousands of dollars in expensive medical bills. Á‚ To do so, you can click below or in the left-hand corner of the site at any time.
We know Scraps loved creating Name That Tune, and loved it when guest posters jumped in for a week. Á‚ When possible, we will feature guest Name That Tune posts — we know Scraps would want the game to continue.
For updates about his condition, you can visit this thread at Making Light or their friend Helen’s LiveJournal page.
Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for helping one of our own make it through this difficult time. Á‚ Please keep Soren and Velma in your thoughts.
Sincerely,
The Popdose Staff
