I was originally going to use this week’s column to list my favorite shows of 2012. Then I decided to go with a holiday theme and focus on Old Man Gloom’s Christmas. If I had went with the former theme, I would’ve mentioned seeing Ministry for their final US show in Chicago over the summer. That would be the incarnation of Ministry featuring Mike Scaccia who passed away over the weekend after collapsing on stage at the age of 47. […]

Big Money couldn’t make this special holiday edition of the convo, but the good news is that our pal Mike Duquette from The Second Disc joined in for some yuletide cheer! – Gonzo: Well lets strap on some bells and get this sleigh rolling! Mike Duquette: What shall we be a-wassailing tonight? G: Last year, you joined us for a convo about Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” which has apparently been covered by everybody in the last 50 years. MD: There were a lot, as I recall. G: One of the […]
Ho ho ho, loyal readers! For this week’s Carlton Shuffle, we decided to get into the spirit by compiling a holiday-themed playlist. And true to form, there are very few ‘obvious’ cuts on here, so don’t pass this one over just because you’ve been spending too much time at the mall. It’s a solid hour’s worth of yuletide tunes perfect for giftwrapping, cookie baking, nog drinking, misteltoeing, etc. Enjoy, and happy holidays to all!
In part 2 of our look at the career of Bob Mould, we examine his output in the ’90s, from his early solo work to the short-lived greatness of his band Sugar.
It’s with great sadness that we at Popblerd announce that, as foretold by the Mayan, Roland Emmerich, John Cusack, and at least one episode of the Montell Williams Show, the world will be ending tomorrow. We hope you didn’t make big plans this weekend! While we don’t know what timezone the ancient Mayans used in their predictions, we’re going to assume it’s Eastern Standard, also known as God’s timezone. That gives you a little less than a day to get ready. […]
Even if you weren’t an Emblem3 fan, you had to be surprised to see them go instead of Fifth Harmony. Simon’s pandering to the audience for votes for Fifth Harmony more than likely hurt Emblem3′s chances. He pandered for the wrong team. It left us with a rather bland final three. Tate Stevens was an early favorite who got boring mid-season and finished strong. Carly Rose has been consistently good all season long. And Fifth Harmony has been terribly inconsistent […]
While I would watch MTV’s The Challenge (originally Real World/Road Rules Challenge) from time to time simply because I was an on-and-off Real World watcher, I became a much bigger fan of MTV’s The Challenge because of The BS Report, ESPN’s own Bill Simmons’ podcast. He and David Jacoby talked about The Challenge being America’s fifth sport after baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. I haven’t missed a beat on the last three years of shows, though I wish Netflix would […]
In this edition of Note for Note, we take a look at the music Bob Mould made throughout his storied career, starting with the Husker Du years.
If you missed Part 1 of “The Metal Monday Top 12 of ’12″ here it is . All caught up? Good because we’re rolling on with Part 2! Are ya ready? Great! Here we go: 6. Lamb Of God: Resolution This album just recently seeped back into my consciousness and with good reason: It’s fucking awesome. It’s been a tumultuous year in the LOG camp with that little thing called a manslaughter charge hanging over Randy Blythe’s head. Despite that […]
What goes up must come down, and in the second half of our Note for Note column, we investigate the last decade and a half of Janet Jackson’s career.
Finally, oh finally, CeCe Frey was given the boot by America. Sadly, so was Diamond White and not Tate Stevens, who I’d been finding to be a bit boring until Wednesday night. But we’re down the the final four. Right now, Tate Stevens, Emblem3, Carly Rose Sonenclar, and Fifth Harmony are left. Simon’s the only one with two acts left. And poor Demi’s eye brows has no one left. Mario and Khloe let us know that there would be no […]
