Thanks to a handful of kind souls, the unofficial pledge drive’s official tally currently stands at $36.50 $61.50 $96.50 $116.50 $141.50 $156.50 $171.50 $176.50 $186.50 $201.50 $221.50. While this isn’t Big Money, it goes a fair distance toward helping defray my hosting overage for the month, not to mention helping to disprove my hunch that mp3 blog readers are generally disinclined toward paying for stuff you guys are awesome.

Many, many thanks to all of you who have donated so far; to those of you who haven’t, my question from yesterday still stands: What would make donating worth your while?

The question is a serious one, and not entirely motivated by this particular predicament. I’ve been toying with the idea of a subscription model for awhile now, but have held back because I’m not convinced it would work. The reality of the situation is that people come here because they want to get stuff for free. I’m sort of doubtful that the percentage of readers who would be willing to chip in consistently would be high enough to make it worthwhile.

Then again, I do enjoy the hell out of writing this blog, and I’m intrigued (to say the least) by the notion that, at some point, I might be able to afford to do it full-time. So me asking these questions is a tentative first step in that direction.

In any event, those of you who have donated already, or who donate over the course of the next few days, will be getting a special thank-you from yours truly. I’ll provide more details soon.
