Described by Rolling Stone as the ultimate over-the-top summer festival,’ hundreds of artists will once again descend upon Tennessee’s Great Stage Park during the long weekend of 13-17 June following the release of Bonnaroo tickets for its 12th annual event.
Initially a haven for folk rock outfits and jam bands, the festival has since expanded its musical remit, showcasing the best of indie-rock, reggae, hip-hop, electronica, jazz, Americana, country, blues, gospel and world music across seven different stages, with specialist comedy and cinema tents, various arts and crafts stalls and a ferris wheel also helping to add to the whole carnival atmosphere.
Festivalgoers with Bonnaroo tickets for last year’s spectacle got the chance to see headline sets from Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish. But the 2013 line-up is equally impressive with acts to look out for across the This Tent, That Tent and The Other Tent on the opening Thursday including BBC Sound of 2013 winners Haim, Mercury Prize winners Alt-J and former Fleet Foxes drummer Father John Misty. Check out Bonnaroo listings from TicketCity for the weekend’s listings. Bonnaroo tickets are currently available with prices for four-day passes starting from $292.
The big guns then come out to play on the Friday with Paul McCartney headlining the What Stage and the reformed Wu-Tang Clan topping the bill on the Which Stage. Passion Pit, Wilco, The xx and Grizzly Bear are also confirmed to appear with Animal Collective, ZZ Top, Foals and My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James the potential highlights outside of the two main stages.
Following performances from the likes of The Lumineers, Bjork, Nas, Cat Power and Solange, two very different acts will headline the two main stages on the Saturday, Grammy Award-winning nu-folkers Mumford and Sons and one of the most successful R&B acts of all time, R. Kelly. While 80s punk-rock icon Billy Idol, parody extraordinaire Weird Al Yankovic and experimental hip-hop trio Death Grips are just some of the more eclectic names on offer elsewhere.
The National, Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will then take to the What Stage on the Sunday before Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ headline slot, with The Sheepdogs, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and David Byrne & St. Vincent scheduled for the Which Stage. While the likes of Tame Impala, A$AP Rocky and Divine Fits will also help to bring the festival close across the other five stages.
